Retro-French Bathroom Makeover

Today, I am going to feature
the wonderful bathroom makeover
from Bestie D's home.
The room now has retro-French flair.
Best of all, Bestie D did this
entire makeover on a budget.

This bathroom does not have a window.
The lack of natural light made it a bit
difficult to take photos.
It was also a decorating challenge for Bestie D
 - but she did a great job!

 The inspiration for the room
came from some vintage French magazine covers.
Bestie D saw these on allposters.com
and was drawn to their retro colors and designs.
She decided to go for a black & white color scheme
with soft pink accents.

Bestie D looked at a variety of new vanities.
After an extensive search, she concluded that
her current vanity was in good shape.
With a fresh coat of black gloss paint
 - and new pink bubble-glass knobs (from Anthropologie) -
the vanity is perfect!

It is impossible to ascertain the true color
from these photos,
but the entire room was painted in
Behr Ultra's "Soothing Pink" (RD-W6).
It is a soft, calming, blush-like color.
The pink is so light, it is almost white.
It looks fantastic behind the new beveled mirror
and new lighting fixture
(which Bestie D's brother helped install).

"Christina" is the hand-carved pig
I bought for the new bathroom while on my trip to La Jolla.
Bestie D and I have been friends for almost 35 years,
and we have a long-running joke about pigs!

On shelves (from Target) behind the toilet,
small French touches were added to the decor.

There is a small box shaped like a pink macaroon.

Aren't these French poodle soaps (from Roger's Gardens)
absolutely adorable?
In the back right corner you can see
a tiny bit of an antique mirror Bestie D
purchased when we attended the
Ventura Flea Market together (back in January).

This lovely clock was a gift from Bestie D's aunt.

Her mother found these hand towels
and a few matching items for the vanity at Home Goods.

These adorable vintage photos were a find
from an antique store in Old Towne Orange.

Bestie D attended the University of California, Irvine
and, while there, she studied French intensively.
I like that her bathroom theme reflects a
significant part of her life.
I also like that the remodel displays
her natural talent for home styling.
I like that the new room
includes little gifts from friends and family.
Most of all, I like that THIS is the
bathroom I get to use whenever I go to visit!  :)
Oh-la-la!

Au Revoir,
Michelle

  1. You have a beautiful bathroom. We recently rennovated our bathroom and did most of the work ourselves. However we did get a plumber in to sort out the sink and new bathtub. I wanted to make sure that they were fitted correctly and were safe to use. Everyone needs a beautiful bathroom in their home.

  2. That’s a great aesthetic, and definitely one that is not overdone at all in bathrooms. How long did redecorating take you, since you found so many pieces on trips and at specialty stores? This would definitely be something I would like to emulate in my own bathroom if I could.
