Saturday Morning Brunch

This morning, my hubby & I went out for a lovely Saturday morning brunch.  It was just the two of us, because my kids are with my dad.  They are having some special time with their grandad, so my hubby & I were able to have a wonderful little date.

My hubby and I drove about 15 minutes outside of Santa Barbara to go to brunch at a quaint little restaurant called Cold Spring Tavern.  This is a one of a kind place!

Really, the drive to and from Cold Spring Tavern was like a date in itself.  My hubby and I had a great time chatting as we enjoyed the curvy road and the beautiful ocean vista.

Cold Spring Tavern is housed in a shack, essentially.
It used to be a stop for the Wells Fargo stagecoach and is now a historic landmark.
It is filled with old memorabilia and fun, kitschy decor.

When we pulled up, we immediately saw the rustic out-buildings and the beautiful trees, rocks, and flowers.

Right away, we could smell the burning of the open-air fire
combined with the smell of bacon and oak trees.
Santa Maria tri-tip, a local specialty, was already slow cooking for later in the day.

The anticipation of a special brunch was a wonderful feeling!

At the door we were greeted with an unusual door handle, latch, and sign.

Cold Spring Tavern makes its own bread and biscuits for their morning menu.  I can say, it was quite delicious.
I ordered the french toast made from the special bread.
YUM!

I also HAD to have some of the bacon I had smelled outside
(and coffee & OJ, of course).

Later in the day, there will be outdoor music, chili, and beer.
We had such a great brunch, my hubby even suggested we come back later this afternoon!

It is a wonderful place!
If you are ever in the Santa Barbara area,
I highly recommend you visit Cold Spring Tavern.
