Bastille Day in America's Riviera

Santa Barbara:

The American Riviera

With oceanfront views, cinematic festivals and fine wine, Santa Barbara has been called the "American Riviera" -- with a twist. The coastal city also comes with a down-home style all its own.

HAPPY BASTILLE DAY!

I adore almost all things French.
Truly, I am a francophile at heart
(which is ironic, considering French class was the thing that nearly prevented my graduation from college at the University of California, Santa Barbara.  In my defense,
it was the sixth level...  wink*)

Part of the reason I love Santa Barbara so much
is that it has many things in common with
the Mediterranean and the French Riviera.
Or maybe it's the other way around.

Truly, when I see the grapevines and wineries,
I often get the feeling that I am in one of
France's famous wine regions.
And, when my husband and I flew out of the airport
in Nice, I had feelings that I was near my home.

(Sorry for the lousy, quick iphone photo.)
On my recent trip to La Jolla,
I found this very old picture of the Paris Opera House
in a quaint antique shop.
The frame was falling apart,
so I recently reframed it and hung it in my kitchen.
It is just one of many french decor items in
my home.  I'll show you more in another post.
Until then...

To all of you fellow "frenchies",
I hope you have a great Bastille Day!

  1. I can see how your area reminds you of France. It's such a pretty area with a lot of culture. I have never been to France. I've only seen pictures. Too bad I didn't go there while visiting England many years ago.

    1. Kelly, I hope that some day you will be able to see it in person. I can honestly say that all the people my hubby and I met were very nice. Then, add the beautiful architecture, art, culture, music, food, fashion... it was wonderful! I hope that I will be able to go back many more times in my life! Fingers crossed for both of us.
      Best,

    1. Shirley, You don't know how much I appreciate your comment - because I truly admire your sense of style and I love your blog! I particularly like the old cars and the muted colors of the piece. As far as the coffee mug, my neighbors saw it one day and surprised me with a special gift. Aren't they sweet?
      Thank you,
      Michelle
